Toes in the sand, something good on the table.

Dunes sits right on Hout Bay beach, with the Sentinel across the bay and the surf a few steps from your table. For more than twenty-five years we’ve been the easy-going, sandy-floored, everyone’s-welcome kind of place: breakfast in the morning sun, long lunches on the terrace while the kids take over the play area, sundowners as the light goes gold, and dinner by candlelight upstairs.

Not fancy. Always easy going. And, if you ask our regulars, very hard to leave.

The terrace fills up, the kids head straight for the old fishing boat, and the table fills with sushi, mussels and platters made for sharing.

Sand, swings and an old fishing boat.

Our sandy play area sits right beside the terrace: a wooden jungle gym with swings and a slide, and an old fishing boat that every small captain makes a beeline for. You get a long lunch. They get the beach.
